Sara Schuchert
PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR
Sara Ann Schuchert is an applied linguist who has worked with neurodivergent individuals for over 25 years. She is deeply curious about the intersection between pragmatic language, social interaction skills, and child development. Sara Ann earned bachelor's degrees in Linguistics and in World Arts and Cultures and an M.A. in Applied Linguistics: Neurobiology of Language - all from UCLA.
Sara Ann began her journey with neurodivergent individuals as a research assistant in the NeuroPsycholinguistics Laboratory at UCLA in 1994. When she administered assessments to young children with language delay she discovered that these tools focused primarily on spoken words and did not capture non-verbal, emotional and social communication skills thereby limiting the acknowledgement of all existing communication skills. Thus began a decades-long quest for a method to define, measure, and teach social interaction and communication skills. Over the ensuing decades Sara Ann deepened her understanding of cognitive and language development, attention and social communication, while working and training in person, and online with various organizations in a multitude of sectors including Los Angeles Unified School District, Pacific Gas & Electric, Special Olympics Bharat, The British School, India, and more. In 2014, Sara Ann added remote/online work to her in-person offerings and has since provided highly effective therapeutic input, parent workshops and professional training and development across time zones and continents, including all of North America, India, Spain, Denmark, Ireland, UK, and Argentina.
